The Lexus RX 400h resolves an age-old paradox by making sporting high performance, low fuel consumption and reduced emissions compatible. It has a 3.3-litre V6 VVT-i petrol engine and two electric motors that work in harmony to deliver smooth, V8-style power and responsiveness. Together, they can whisk the Lexus RX 400h to 62 mph in under 8 seconds.

While the motors play an active role in delivering this power, they also help to ensure fuel consumption figures and emission levels you would normally associate with a much smaller vehicle.

The Lexus HSD (Hybrid Synergy Drive) makes sure that power is sent exactly where it's needed. When you want acceleration, power from the petrol engine and electric motors is sent to the wheels. When you're slowing down, the energy produced by the petrol engine and from vehicle braking is used to recharge the batteries.
